Puppies everywhere!

Walt Disney’s animated classic is a fantastic family film that you can watch one, twice or 101 times!

The cartoon movie follows the adventures the Radcliffe family experiences when their litter of dalmatian puppies starts to grow exponentially!  But with such a bounty of beautiful babes, it’s not long before infamous Disney villan Cruella de Ville enters the picture and tries to pry the puppies away!

If you like this classic version of the dalmatian tale, check out the 1996 live action version starring Glenn Close, it’s also great.

The Incredible Journey

In this 1993 Disney remake of the 1963 original, three pets — an American Bulldog named Chance, a Golden Retriever named Shadow and a Himalayan cat named Sassy try to find their way to their owners.

Follow the three as they journey across amazing landscapes and the beautiful wilderness to see if they make it home safe and sound!  (Okay it’s a Disney movie, so they might just make it, but humor us!)

Talking pet movies always feature famous stars playing the voices and this film has ’em too:  Michael J. Fox, Don Ameche and Sally Field play Chance, Shadow and Sassy respectively.

  1. Hide some of your dogs favorite treats around the house and put his natural instincts to work sniffing them out.
  2. Visit your local pet store for some socialization and a long walk through the aisles.
  3. Most human treadmills can be utilized for K-9 family members too. Make sure to take time to train you dog safely to use a treadmill, and never leash your pet to the treadmill.
  4. Play fetch with an indoor safe toy like the Chuck-It indoor roller. Add a little extra to the work out by throwing the ball up the steps!
  5. Make meal time more fun and stimulating with some interactive puzzle toys!
  6. Create an indoor agility course for your pup out of things around your house.
  7. Have a play date with one of your dogs 4legged buddies.
  8. Rotate your dogs toys so he stays interested and doesn’t get bored.

Preparing Pets for Cold, Wet Winter Weather

Despite the recent mild weather I am already scouring the closets in my house for Barret’s winter wardrobe. With the growing potential for snow on the ground and the little guy’s reluctance to step past the front door these days, i guess it is time to find the dog jackets and coats. Many people think that since dogs have a fur coat, that they don’t need any additional winter gear. This is true for some dog breeds, but others, like Barret, have very thin, short coats and appreciate the extra layer of warmth when braving the great outdoors.

nala-winter-jacket-fashionI know a lot of people that think I dress him up just for fun, and that is only partially true. While it is fun for me to parade him around in stylish duds, it serves a very important purpose. The extra layers can be comforting to a dog that is particularly sensitive to cold weather. Dogs like Barret need the warmth of a coat, like a child venturing out in winter to play, to keep their temp up and their immune system strong.  The extra layers help to conserve body heat, so your dog doesn’t have to work as hard to stay warm when outside, or even when hanging around the house.
